The Open Studio for Actors is not only the name of Steve's studio,
but also refers to ongoing open studio sessions and the
atmosphere required for an actor to do their best, most expansive
work. The ultimate goal of the studio is to provide a safe, creative,
and empowering atmosphere for actors who wish to explore their
potential. Most private coaching, classes & open studios are held
at ARTFARE (55 N. 6th Avenue) in downtown Tucson, but Steve
also tours workshops and even makes house calls for actors who
would prefer private coaching in the comfort of their own home.

Check out the open studio below. Classes & Workshops are on their
way!
"Actors do their best work in an environment that is free of judgment. A class or workshop must be open, relaxed, pressure-free,
process-based, and conducted in an atmosphere focused on acceptance, growth, creativity, and exploration."

The OPEN STUDIO is perfect for the actor who wants to
exercise their skills without a major time or financial
commitment.

We will begin each session with
relaxation work and a
gradual warm up. We will then move through some basic
exercises designed to free our minds, get us breathing, get our
focus outside of ourselves, rid ourselves of that "censor" that so often gets in the way, and allow our minds and
bodies to accept impulses and put them into action. This part is basically about achieving a
state of being that is
appropriate for the actor who would like to mentally and physically feel more
relaxed and connected to their work,
fill the space, have
presence without effort, develop an incredibly creative spirit, and more. There will be some
consistency in the warm up, but each session will also provide a bit of variety to keep things fresh.

We will then move into individual and group improvisation. Some may be comedy-improv games, but many will not be.
Rather, they will be improvisations designed to instill in the actor the layering of
sense of place, relationship,
character, stillness & focus, intention-driven action, and efforts of movement
. All the good stuff that makes your
presence undeniable.

Actors may bring in
scenes (hopefully, with a partner) or monologues to work on in jam sessions with Steve, who
will offer feedback and direction, but also inspire methods with which the actor can achieve powerful results on their
own. We will also do
open scenes from time to time, particularly for actors who do not have material to work on.
Open scenes are short, generic scenes that are very easy to memorize quickly. They can be a wonderful way to
demonstrate that there is an infinite number of ways to approach scenework, that the words you speak are one
thing and what you are DOING is another. It's also a good way to practise the use of subtext, but in a way that gets
you out of your head and into your body, all while making your actions tangible in every moment.
"Aha" moments
often arise out of these sessions.
If you are interested in participating, but nothing offered fits into your schedule, please send Steve an email or give
him a call to suggest other days and times. If other actors appear to be looking for something similar, we can begin
a new group or schedule private or semi-private instruction.
If you have any questions about the open studio, private coaching, or anything else, please feel free to contact
Steve at any time.
